KODAK i1840 Scanner Packed with Innovative
Features Joins Award-Winning KODAK i1860 Scanner
BOSTON, April 16—Eastman Kodak Company’s Document Imaging
Business is reaffirming its commitment to its market-leading production
portfolio with the introduction of the KODAK i1840 Scanner. The new
scanner joins the recently introduced KODAK i1860 Scanner, which
just last month won the GCN Best of FOSE 2007 award for the scanner
category.
All about maximizing productivity, the KODAK i1840 Scanner captures
images at up to 160 pages per minute, and offers a variety of ergonomic
features including a user height-adjustable base to maximize productivity
while either sitting or standing. An intuitive color touch-screen
display simplifies on-the-fly performance by putting a variety of
controls at the operator’s fingertips and the scanner has the
capability of pre-scan or post-scan printing.
“When you have a recognized winner, you expand on it,” said
Eric Olsen, Product Marketing Manager for Production Capture and
Capture Software Products, US&C, Document Imaging, Graphic Communications
Group. “The ultimate design critics—end users—told
us they wanted to see more scanners like the i1860 to help them operate
more efficiently, but at a smaller price point. We listened and gave
them its ‘kid brother,’ the KODAK i1840 Scanner.”
The KODAK i1840 Scanner is an ideal solution for paper-intensive
environments such as service bureaus and insurance companies that
centrally process claims, or financial institutions that handle volumes
of transactions such as loan and mortgage transactions that have
a wide variety of document types, colors, weights and demanding duty
cycles.
The new scanner can be combined with the latest version of the image
capture software behind the company’s award-winning document
imaging products. KODAK Capture Software, Version 6.10, adds MICR
code support—a critical function in the processing and sorting
of checks, augments current barcode and zonal OCR indexing capabilities.
Improved zonal OCR support enables the removal of unwanted and embedded
spaces from OCR engine results—commonly referred to as kerning—ensuring
extraction of only the most relevant content.
Other features include
- Kodak’s Perfect Page imaging technologies for outstanding
image quality
- SurePath paper handling for easy document throughput
- Three independent, ultrasonic, multi-feed detection sensors
- Black or white background option
- A 500-sheet feeder for optimum capacity
- An output hopper that keeps documents in order
- FIREWIRE connectivity
The KODAK i1840 Scanner will be available through the company’s channel
partners during the second quarter 2007 and has an anticipated U.S. list price
of $67,000. The new scanner is backed by KODAK Service & Support, the benchmark
service provider for the document imaging industry, named Best Support Organization
in the 2006 International Business Awards. New Features Target Increased Productivity, Image Quality, and

KODAK s1220 Photo Scanning System Turns Old Photos into Digital
Files, CDs, DVDs, Gift Items
BOSTON, April 16—Leveraging off the award-winning KODAK i1220
Scanner’s performance is the new in-store scanning solution
on display this week at the 2007 AIIM ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition
that allows consumers to turn a shoebox of photos into custom CDs,
DVDs, or online uploads for use in creating other photographic and
digital imaging products.
The KODAK s1220 Photo Scanning System lets users feed black-and-white
and color prints for batch scanning and includes associated software
to capture the photos and perform simple enhancements such as sharpening
or red-eye reduction. Aimed at retail countertop services, the solution
provides fast 30 picture-per-minute scans, is easy to use and requires
little counter space.
“Businesses are not alone in their efforts to convert vital
documents and images to digital files,” said Lois Powell, Director
of Capture Solutions, Document Imaging, Kodak’s Graphic Communications
Group. “This solution provides an easy way for consumers to
recapture and to share some of the most important moments of their
lives with family and friends.”
During the past year, Kodak has conducted consumer research as well
as a number of market trials with retailers to gauge demand for the
service. Consumers responded favorably – and so has at least
one group of retailers to potentially serve them. Powell said that
the Independent Photo Imagers (IPI) trade association has ordered
150 of the i1220 Scanners for its membership to use in similar applications.
IPI members own more than 730 storefront locations across the U.S.,
Mexico, and Australia.
The KODAK s1220 Photo Scanning System will debut in July with an
expected price to U.S. retailers at $2,495. The new system is backed
by KODAK Service & Support, the benchmark service provider for
the document imaging industry, named Best Support Organization in
the 2006 International Business Awards.
